A Five Part Series Presented by:

Daniel Perez & Vincent Hayes of Threefold Capital Corp.

Much like the question of human freedom, the economic domain is challenging to grasp. We live within its flows, currents, and uncertainties, often attributing political interpretations to related events. Yet, beneath our fears, needs, and desires lie spiritual realities and the interaction of spiritual beings, including the life of our own souls. How, then, do we navigate this complex domain? What questions do we carry? How are human freedom, ethical individualism, and our soul life connected to economic ideas? In rethinking economics, we begin a journey in search of answers.

This series of webinars is based on Rudolf Steiner’s economic lectures, as presented in his book of the same title. However, we will not follow the book chronologically. Instead, we will extract key spiritual ideas and impulses. While some prior exposure to Anthroposophical concepts around these topics is helpful, most discussions and presentations will have no prerequisites. We simply request open minds and goodwill.

Who will benift from this series?

This series of presentations is for those who have an interest in the themes described, such as the connection between economics, human freedom, ethical individualism, and our soul life, as well as the broader spiritual dimensions of economic life. It’s also suited for individuals who are curious about exploring Rudolf Steiner’s economic insights or who have an interest in specific topics that will be covered throughout the series. Prior familiarity with Anthroposophical ideas is helpful but not required; anyone with an open mind and a willingness to engage with these concepts is welcome.

What will one learn?

Participants will explore the intersection of economics and spirituality, particularly through the lens of Rudolf Steiner’s economic lectures. They will learn how concepts like capital, labor and spirit or mind are integral to a healthy economy and ethical individualism. The course will also introduce spiritual perspectives on economic systems, movements, and challenges, while encouraging participants to rethink economics in a way that integrates both material and spiritual realities. Specific spiritual ideas and impulses from Steiner’s teachings will be discussed, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the spiritual forces at play in economic life.

What will you get from the series?

By the end of the course, participants should come away with a renewed and enriched understanding of economics, not just as a practical or political field, but as one connected to deeper spiritual realities. They will develop insights into how their personal and spiritual lives intersect with economic structures, and they will have new questions and perspectives to guide their thinking on economic issues. The ultimate goal is for participants to gain a more holistic, ethical, and spiritually informed approach to economic life, along with tools for navigating economic challenges with a deeper sense of purpose and understanding.

Rethinking Economics (CW 340-341)

Rethinking Economics

Rudolf Steiner gave this complex sequence of dense, subtle, multileveled lectures and seminars to students of economics in Dornach, Switzerland, during the summer of 1922. The course reflects a lifetime of thinking on the subject and marks the conclusion of his intense five-year period of activism in the service of social, political, and economic issues. During this time, which began as World War I was ending in 1917, he worked tirelessly to promote the cause of what he called “threefolding” (Dreigliederung), by which he meant rethinking the social order on the basis of clear separation and independence of the three fundamental spheres of activity that make up a society.
