Join us for an enlightening live interview with Lois Schroff, a distinguished watercolorist and color therapy pioneer. Lois began her artistic journey by studying with many prominent American watercolorists. In 1975, she expanded her horizons internationally, traveling to Europe to delve into painting and color therapy following the indications of Dr. Rudolf Steiner. Her studies took her to the Artistic Therapy Center in Gloucester, England, the Kunst Studienstätte in Germany, and to Holland under the mentorship of Liane Collot d’Herbois. These experiences significantly influenced her unique approach to art, blending creativity with therapeutic principles.
Since 1978, Lois has been a passionate lecturer and teacher, imparting her extensive knowledge and skills in watercolor painting. During the 1980’s she was the President of the Chalice Center for the Arts in Reston/Herndon, Virginia, where she had inspired and guided countless artists. Lois has also made significant contributions to the field through her writing, authoring several influential books and articles that explore the profound relationship between color, soul, and spirit.
A member of the Anthroposophical Society and an Artist Member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, as well as the Transparent Watercolor Society of America where her work has been widely recognized in numerous juried exhibitions, including that of the Baltimore Watercolor Society in Baltimore, Maryland. She has garnered numerous accolades, such as First in Show and Best Watercolor, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to her craft. Her published works include the books “Color, Its Relationship to Soul and Spirit,” also translated in French as “La Couleur,” and “Physical and Spiritual Experiences of Color: Therapeutic and Artistic Aspects,” as well as the instructional video “Spirit In Watercolor.”
Turning 100 is a remarkable milestone for anyone, but for Lois, it represents just one of her many significant achievements. Her artistic career, which truly blossomed in her 40s, is filled with impressive accomplishments. Lois continues to inspire through her art and teachings, now based in Ajijic, Mexico, where she remains actively engaged in painting, conducting workshops, and educating art enthusiasts.

She is an Artist Member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, as well as the Transparent Watercolor Society of America and has been selected for multiple exhibitions by national jurors. Her artwork has also been showcased in prestigious shows including that of the Baltimore Watercolor Society in Baltimore, Maryland. Her notable achievements include placing First in Show and receiving the Best Watercolor award in highly competitive exhibitions. Beyond her artistic prowess, Schroff is an active member of the Anthroposophical Society and of various art organizations. Even at her wonderful age of 100, she continues to inspire through her workshops, exhibitions, and teachings in Ajijic, Mexico, where she now resides.
